Prepare to Survive
Many areas of the globe are liable to earthquakes. Earthquakes happen anyplace at any time. It could happen when we are at home, at work, at school, at the office, or even on vacation. In this kind of disaster, preparation is needed since we didn't know when a destructive disaster like this could strike us. At some point, if we are not prepared for an earthquake, it might result in serious injuries, or worse is death. That's the reason why we'd like to be prepared for this situation. Also, having national simultaneous earthquake drills is a smart thought and taking part in this is even better. This gives people the opportunity to practice how to be safer during an earthquake, it helps them to understand what to do and not to do when an earthquake strikes.
Because earthquakes strike
without warning, life-protecting actions must be taken immediately at the first
indication of ground shaking. There will not be time to think through what to
do. Therefore, of all earthquake preparedness measures, earthquake drills are
the most important. Their purpose is to help people learn how to react
immediately and appropriately. Effective earthquake drills simulate actions to
be taken during an actual earthquake and actions to be taken after the ground
shaking stops. Building evacuation following an earthquake is imperative due to
the potential danger of fires or explosions. The first indication of a damaging
earthquake maybe a gentle shaking. You may notice the swaying of hanging plants
and light fixtures or hear objects wobbling on shelves. Or, you may be jarred
first by a violent jolt. Or, you may hear a low and perhaps very loud rumbling
noise. A second or two later, you’ll really feel the shaking; and, by this
time, you’ll find it very difficult to move from one place to another. It’s
important to take “quake-safe” action at the first indication of ground
shaking. Don’t wait until you are certain an earthquake is occurring. As the
ground shaking grows stronger, the danger increases, an example of this is free-standing
cabinets and bookshelves are likely to topple, wall-mounted objects, such as
clocks and artwork, may shake loose and fly across the room, suspended ceiling
components may pop out, bringing light fixtures, mechanical diffusers,
sprinkler heads, and other components down with them.
We should pay more attention to taking part in earthquake drills for that we are sufficiently prepared when an earthquake comes. Being knowledgeable, knowing what to do, and staying safe until the earthquake stops can give more time for the rescuers to rescue someone. Instead of being you to be rescued, it is someone to be rescued.
