Lenten Season and the Pandemic

Before the Holy Week
festivities, Lent is supposed to be a season of repentance and redemption.
People have been commemorating Jesus' crucifixion on Good Friday and eventual
return from the dead on Easter Sunday for years.
The forty-day Lenten season is defined by Christians as a journey
in the wilderness. Lent is a season of deliberate fasting before a time of
feasting, a time of looking for God in the middle of life's brokenness. People
have traditionally given up something during Lent to mark their journey and
refocus their energy on their relationship with God. We believe that someone who
begs for the forgiveness of sins will be forgiven because of Jesus' sacrifice on
the cross. And everyone who believes in Jesus' triumph over death has glorious
hope for a better life and a renewed relationship with God.
The Catholic Church moved from
actual to online festivities due to quarantine steps imposed as a result of the
COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the safety protocols, even Holy Week will be
spent online. Millions of people commemorated Christ's death at home, rather
than attending mass, processions, or other ceremonies. During Holy Week, the
government extended community quarantine orders to restrict people from
traveling or gathering.
To summarize, these innovative practices must be implemented so that citizens can faithfully observe the holy week while complying with the safety protocols. As a result, the faithful would not be able to contribute to the transmission of the virus while also being able to fulfill their Church duties.
